sherlock2040: Odd spider, possibly a wasp spider

For the past couple of weeks I keep encountering this medium sized spider that looks like it was the product of a romanic liason between a wasp and a spider. Mentioning it at work one day someone looked it up and came across the wasp spider, mine looks more like the male wasp spider as it's not round or as colourful.

'Cos he was quite an odd spider I thought I'd find out if it is indeed a wasp spider.

saenc21000: Unknown Bugs, further details

The shell is very metallic and shiny. The head is a shiny green (about the color of an emerald ash borer), although I also saw a couple with darker, almost black heads. Most of them do have small antenna, but I saw a few that don't. No one else in my family has ever seen these before, either, and at least one of us would have. Does this help anyone identify them?

saenc21000: Unknown Bugs

I was cutting my neighbor's lawn today and a ton of bugs fell out of her plum tree onto me. They appeared to be eatting the leaves. The leaves on that tree and the shrub nearby that I also saw them on had so many holes some of the leaves were barely there. The bugs were almost round with a hard bronze-ish colored shell. They did have wings under the shell, but I don't think I saw any of them actually fly. They had six legs and I did not notice any antenna. I live in southeastern Wisconsin, near Milwaukee. I have never seen these bugs before this year.
I know it's not the best description, but can anyone tell me what these are and also if they bite, because soon after they fell on me, I noticed some blood smeared on my arm from what appears to be a bug bite of some kind. Thanks.

so yesterday i was going to give my guinea pigs some hay, but then i saw these little bugs in it, so i didn't gave them anything, but went to ask my brother if i could borrow some from him (he has a pig too). but there were these little bugs in his hay too. i've always bought hay from the same place, and there's never been any problems with it before. my brother bought it from the same place last time he bought hay, and we bought it at the same time. but...i am wondering if it has anything to do with the heat, cause i've experienced this before, that there were bugs in the hamster and pig food when it's been really hot. i'm definitely going to the store where i bought the hay and ask where they get it from

i took some pics of themCollapse )

urbpan: Spider ID?

I found three of these spiders in with a shipment of crickets. I haven't figured out which vendor supplied the crickets yet, so I don't know the geographic origin; most likely the American south, unless theres a population of exotic spiders living in the captive European house cricket population. It's a medium sized spider, about the same body size as the 4 week old crickets; you can see living with the crickets is hazardous, as it's missing one of its left legs. I didn't find any close matches in Spiders of the North Woods, my go-to spider book, so I'm cross-posting this in a few places. Thanks in advance!

sherlock2040: Bug on my Blind

Found this bug on my blind when I got in, it sort of reminds me of a skinny moth but I don't think it is. Sorry for bad picture, it didn't want to keep still.
